Kilometres per hour to miles per hour is the direction of a metric driver on British or American roads, and of anyone reading a European car review for a US audience. The gap matters at legal speeds: 120 km/h is 74.6 mph, so a driver assuming a rough 75 is fine, while 100 km/h is 62 mph, comfortably above a 55 mph limit.
Multiply by 0.6214. The quick approximation is to take six-tenths and add a little, or use the Fibonacci pairs — 80 km/h is about 50 mph, 130 about 80. Note that wind speeds are frequently quoted in knots, a third unit at 1.852 km/h, which is why marine forecasts do not match road speeds.
