Privacy Policy
What happens to your data on CalcOtter — the short version: we don't collect it.
Last updated: 6 August 2026
Your inputs stay in your browser
Everything you type into a calculator here — loan amounts, salaries, body weights, due dates, birthdays — is processed by code running on your own device. It is not transmitted to us, not written to a database, and not logged. Closing the tab discards it.
This is a consequence of how the site is built rather than a policy we are asking you to trust. These pages are static files: there is no application server behind them doing arithmetic, so there is no point at which your figures could be received even in principle. You can verify it — load any calculator, put your device into aeroplane mode, and it keeps working, because the maths was delivered to your browser along with the page.
The practical consequence is that we cannot show you "your data", export it, or delete it on request: there is nothing on our side to show, export or delete. Where a calculator remembers your last inputs so the page is not blank when you return, that is stored in your own browser's local storage on your own device, never sent anywhere, and cleared whenever you clear your browsing data.
No accounts, no profiles
There is no sign-up, no login, no email capture and no newsletter. We do not build a profile of you, we do not run our own tracking pixels, and we have never sold data — there is none to sell. Nothing on this site requires you to identify yourself, and none of it works better if you do.
What our analytics see
We use privacy-focused, cookieless page-view counting to see which calculators people use, so we know what to improve and what to build next. It records the page visited, an approximate country, the referring site and general device type. It sets no cookies, uses no persistent identifier that follows you between sessions, and never sees what you typed into a calculator — those figures never leave your device, so the analytics could not capture them even if it wanted to. We read this data in aggregate only; it cannot identify individuals and we make no attempt to.
Advertising
CalcOtter is free and supported by a single advertisement on each page, clearly labelled and placed in a fixed reserved space that does not move the content or cover an answer. There are no interstitials, no pop-ups, no auto-playing video and no automatically-injected placements.
Advertising is served by Google AdSense and its certified partners. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites, and Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on that activity. This is standard for ad-funded sites, and it is the one part of this page where data does leave your browser — which is why we describe it plainly rather than burying it.
You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings, and opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland you are asked for consent before personalised advertising cookies are set, and you can change or withdraw that choice at any time.
Children
This site is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age, because we do not collect personal information at all.
Your rights
Data-protection law — South Africa's POPIA, the GDPR in Europe, and comparable regimes elsewhere — gives you rights of access, correction, deletion and objection over personal information a site holds about you. We hold none, so on our side there is nothing for those rights to act on. Rights relating to advertising cookies are exercised through the opt-out links above, which are controlled by the advertising vendors rather than by us. If you would like that confirmed in writing, ask and we will confirm it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes we update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be visible here rather than announced by email, for the same reason as everything else on this page: we do not have your email address.
Contact
Questions about this policy, or about what we do and do not see, go to hello@calcotter.com and are answered by a person. The contact page explains what else that address is for. CalcOtter is operated by Iris Consulting and Engineering (Pty) Ltd, a private company registered in South Africa.
